CEDARS: Hi, Rene! What was it like when you were a kid?
Rene: My favorite childhood memory would be spending time with my family. Probably the best times would be taking vacations with my whole family.

CEDARS: How long have you worked at CEDARS?
Rene: I’ve worked at CEDARS since January 2015, so about one and a half years. I started in the Life Skills Reporting Center, which provides a structured environment for youth during the day where they can work on skill building or academic performance. I transferred over to Tracker Services which provides more one-on-one support to youth who could benefit from additional supervision. They are both great programs. I have enjoyed working in both of them.

CEDARS: What keeps you coming to work each day?
Rene: What keeps me coming back to work is the youth I support on a daily basis. Every day coming to the tracker office is fun. We all have a great sense of humor.

CEDARS: Can you tell us what a typical day is like in Tracker Services?
Rene: I help youth seek jobs and assist them in accomplishing their goals. If a youth could benefit from additional supervision, I’ll monitor them via GPS. I visit clients at home, school and throughout the community making sure they obtain the resources that will help them to be successful community members when they leave our care.

CEDARS: What is your favorite part about your work?
Rene: Working with youth and seeing the progress many of these youth make. Seeing them hurdle obstacles in life they thought they wouldn’t be able to overcome. My work as a Tracker creates new opportunities for kids who might not have those opportunities otherwise. I get to show kids that their goals can be accomplished.

CEDARS: What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
Rene: One of the things I enjoy doing when I’m not at work is playing soccer or watching movies.

CEDARS: Is there one particular client that you feel was significantly impacted at CEDARS?
Rene: Many of the clients I work with get impacted significantly by CEDARS, but there is one client I’m thinking of. He had a learning disability; CEDARS helped him with transportation around town when he needed to be at certain places. When this client had a rough day, driving out to his house and talking with him would make him feel better.
