Street Outreach Specialist/Family Partner, CEDARS Street Outreach/Bridges Program (Lincoln, NE)

CEDARS Street Outreach Services (SOS) provides center and street based assistance to runaway, homeless and at-risk youth between the ages of 13-21. Without pressure or judgment, SOS staff support homeless youth as they work to leave the streets for safe shelter, secure permanent living arrangements or reunite with their families. Targeting areas where youth congregate, SOS offers crisis intervention, access to CEDARS 24-hour emergency shelter, food, transportation, and personal hygiene items. By utilizing CEDARS Wraparound services, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, and a continuum of other care models as well as other community resources, Street Outreach Services can meet the variety of needs youth may have. CEDARS Street Outreach Services operates the CEDARS Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) a minimum of 20 hours a week. Offering center based services, including laundry, meal, educational, employment and housing assistance. The CEDARS Bridges Program provides supervised scattered-site apartments for homeless and state-involved youth preparing for independent living. Priorities are achievement of educational goals, increasing life skills, maintaining employment and development of a long-term supportive network. The Family Partner will utilize the wraparound philosophy and family-centered care to provide case management and coordination to youth who reside in the Bridges Program. Skill building opportunities will focus on education, daily living skills, vocational and community involvement, parenting and preparation for independent living. The Family Partner will work closely with team members including but not limited to case workers from the Department of Health and Human Services and Probation Officers from the Juvenile Probation Office to support clients as they gain independent living skills. This position will work half of their time with the Street Outreach Program and the other half with the Bridges Transitional Living Program. Staff will offer youth on-going support, aid, education, guidance and assist in linking the youth and their families with community resources equipped to address their needs. Staff must be sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the clients and families we serve. Staff will participate in community speaking engagements, facilitate youth groups and maintain the drop-in center and other duties as assigned. Staff will develop and maintain an enduring relationship with youth and will be responsible for performing intensive targeted services to ensure that the agreed outcomes for the youth and families are achieved. Staff must have the ability to maintain accurate records, statistics, documentation and participate in the evaluation of services goals and objectives. Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work or closely related field and two years of experience working with youth and families are required. Staff must have the ability to use electronic data retrieval systems and effectively use computers, have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and have access to a vehicle for use. Some cleaning tasks and moving of furniture in the apartments will also be expected. Schedule: Flexible as determined by the Program Director and will include evening and weekend hours. This position requires participation in 24hr on-call rotation and evening and weekend curfew checks for the Bridges Program.
